![]() Rustburg, VA - Shock TestingNTS Rustburg performs a turnkey operation to include pre-shock test analysis, comprehensive design and fabrication of equipment foundations, fixture design and fabrication, instrumentation design and installation, and data analysis and report generation. Heavyweight, mediumweight, and lightweight items are tested. NTS Rustburg has the capability to provide high-speed photography, special instrumentation, video, digital video, modal testing, and the corresponding expertise to accurately monitor equipment response and performance during severe test environments such as underwater shock. NTS maintains three floating test platforms for MIL-S-901D testing, two measuring 16 by 28 feet for the test loads up to 70,000 pounds, and one other measuring 16 by 46 feet for test loads up to 125,000 pounds. Fixtures are available for testing antennae, hull penetrations, and standard deck items. Other equipment includes a vibration table MIL-STD-167-1 testing, mediumweight shock machine, and drop test pad. NTS Rustburg was certified by the Naval Sea Systems Command on 17 February 1984 as an approved heavyweight shock test facility. NTS Rustburg successfully conducted a shock test series against a submarine model, weighing over 270,000 pounds, 13 feet in diameter, and 160 feet long. This was the largest model test conducted at a private quarry. Summary:
