Aqueous Cleaning

Cleaning with Environmentally Friendly Solvents and DI-Water

The right combination of aqueous-based solvents, cleaning methods and drying processes can equal or surpass chlorinated solvents' effectiveness, if not the outright speed with which the parts are cleaned. The EPA lists over 670 vendors with alternative solutions for CFC-113 and methyl chloroform alone. It takes real expertise to find the right solution for each particular cleaning challenge. Over the last 20 years, NTS has gradually shifted from the reliance on chlorinated solvents to cleaning predominantly with aqueous based materials to meet the needs of our customers.

Researched, Developed & Perfected Methods

NTS is the number one contract cleaner of titanium vessels. Often, the ports on these vessels are only ¼ inch in diameter and chlorinated solvents cannot be used. Flowing large volumes of fluid through the vessels and getting the tanks dry afterwards can be a challenge. To accomplish cleaning within deadlines, NTS (with the help of several major aerospace primes) has developed proprietary cleaning processes and drying methods that now transfer to all other hardware. Some of the elements that help in aqueous cleaning of components and systems include ultrasonic cleaning (NTS has some of the largest and best maintained tanks in the business); filtered, dried and heated nitrogen purging; vacuum bake out (ovens accommodate oversized parts); and dew point testing, as well as desiccant packaging, moisture indicator placement and various other precautions (used per specification or as a precaution).

Field Services Aqueous Cleaning

Precision cleaning and passivation of large systems involves such enormous amounts of effluent that disposing of anything other than environmentally friendly waste water is not only harmful to the environment, but prohibitively expensive and logistically difficult. NTS employs alkaline based degreasers, citric chelating agents, and large quantities of DI (Deionized) water, alcohol (when permitted), and nitrogen to remove rust, passivate, precision clean, and dry systems in one extended process
