Hypergolic Cleaning

Monomethyl Hydrazine (MMH) and Nitrogen Tetroxide (N2O4)

For hypergolic fuel systems cleaning, NTS possesses unparalleled experience in preparing the biggest and the smallest of components for long life in space or on the ground. NTS understands the critical nature of hypergolic propellant components and, having cleaned thousands of rocket and satellite parts ranging from 1/16 inches diameter tubing to 10 ft long storage vessels, we know that size can be deceiving. Even the biggest parts have tiny entrapments that can jeopardize safety and performance. Since MMH (fuel) and N2O4 (oxidizer) are both highly toxic, corrosive, react to different substances and are self-igniting, care must be taken to process the piping, components, and storage vessels in accordance with their distinct use. NTS has processed not only new components for use with hypergols, but has also serviced reusable storage vessels (decontaminated by users) and is completely comfortable in performing cleaning and processing to convert vessels from one use to another.

NTS holds approvals from all the major aerospace companies as well as the manufacturers who make the hardware. To achieve consistent success, NTS has in place a comprehensive operating system based on industry standards. Its core consists of repeatable, well-defined and documented procedures, and process controls. For example, all solvents, gases, and fluids are checked to be in compliance not only with the appropriate aerospace, manufacturers or Compressed Gas Association (CGA) standards, but also with NTS's own additional strict control parameters.

Capabilities

NTS's experience specifically includes 10 ft dun storage and transportation tanks for Loral Space & Communications, satellite fuel tanks for most major manufacturers, including Hughes and Boeing, leak testing and cleaning hypergolic valves, tubes and lines, filter elements and PMDs (propellant management devices), various Space Shuttle components, and much more. Our field service division can precision clean, test, and certify any system at a launch site, fuel facility or transfer station. NTS will also rebuild and refurbish decontaminated systems, regardless of location or condition.
