NTS provides comprehensive explosive atmosphere testing for packaging, military, commercial aircraft, space, automotive, and operating room equipment, and also to European safety standards.
Will your product operate in a highly volatile environment without creating ignition and causing an explosion? An explosive atmosphere test provides vital information about motors, lighting systems, bilge pumps, aircraft components, electronics, and many other products. Explosive atmosphere testing answers whether the products will operate in a fuel contaminated, highly volatile environment without creating ignition and causing an explosion or if a flammable reaction occurring within an encased equipment will be contained and will not propagate outside the test item.
Causes of ignition vary from tiny electrical arcs in battery-operated equipment to hot spots on surfaces of sealed, encased units to a spark from mechanical sources.
As a full service explosive atmosphere test facility, NTS has the capabilities to provide fuel and vapor mixtures using either hydrocarbon n-hexane, propane, hydrogen gas and/or jet aircraft fuel. For aircraft and space applications, NTS chambers simulate altitudes to 100,000 ft (30,480m) and can provide temperatures up to +300°F (+150°C).
Since most devices undergoing explosive atmosphere testing require to be operational during the test, NTS will work with you closely to set up the necessary remote configurations to control the unit(s).
We typically test to MIL-STD-202, MIL-STD-810, RTCA/DO-160 and will be glad to discuss any special set ups or test condition you need.
