Temperature & Humidity Testing

Temperature and humidity testing determines how components, subsystems and complete systems behave in severe environments that involve elevated temperatures and high or fluctuating relative humidity. The testing can be static with constant temperature and humidity, it can involve the cycling of both, it can be temperature-humidity bias testing (where the moisture is used to induce a failure in an electrical device), or they can be a combination of some or all of these humidity and temperature settings.

Among other things temperature/humidity tests study the effects of climatic changes on electronic components such as failures due to parameter shifts, mechanical failures (due to rapid water or frost formation), optical failures (fogging), water tightness (package) failures, material degradation (epoxy coatings, etc.) and much more. Temperature/humidity testing is are a critical component of a complete qualification program. Many electrical components, while inexpensive to purchase, may be expensive to replace. For example, an LCD on an oil exploration device or a marine instrument can cause serious down time costs in a temperature/humidity related failure.

Temperature and humidity combined testing extends to complete systems and finished products that extend beyond electronic components: copiers, computers, automobiles, satellites and even parachutes require temperature/humidity testing. NTS has been performing climatic testing for over 40 years and realizes the wide breath of temperature/humidity testing. Consequently our testing chambers have been assembled and kept up to date to satisfy every requirement conceivable.

NTS can provide 20 to 60 data channels, and generate temperatures of -150F to +350F with relative humidity (RH) from 10% to 100%.

All Things Large & Small - Hot &Cold

Because much temperature/humidity testing is operational, it is important that the larger products be accessible by technical personnel during testing. NTS accommodates access to large equipment during testing with large walk-in chambers up to 15' x 25' x 25'. These accessible chambers utilize heat exchangers for temperature changes (instead of LN2) so that technicians can safely operate or manipulate test units without interrupting the testing cycle.

Microchips

If you are testing microchips, micro connectors, or any other small device, and, you will be running several hundred hours, rest assured that NTS has an appropriately small chamber to meet your requirements while keeping your testing costs reasonable.

Standards

NTS tests to any specification, including Mil-Std 810 E, RTCA/DO-160C and Mil-Std-331B.
