Machinery Directive: 98/37/EEC (formerly 89/392/EEC revised by 98/44/EEC and 93/68/EEC)
This directive applies to all machines and to all safety components. A machine is an assembly of linked parts or components, at least one of which moves. It is generally applied that a "machine" must perform a specific function. A comprehensive list of hazards is defined in Annex I of this directive. The Machinery Directive requires that a hazard analysis be made, preformed, and documented. It also requires the machine to be evaluated for electrical safety to the harmonized product safety standard. Typical products are evaluated using the following standards:
- EN 1050: Safety of Machinery - Principles for Risk Assessment.
- EN 60204-1: Safety of Machinery - General Requirements
