WiMAX or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a broadband wireless networking technology based around the IEEE 802.16 standard. WiMAX provides fixed (IEEE 802.16-2004), portable or mobile (IEEE 802.16e-2005) non-line-of sight service from a base station to a subscriber station. The industry trade group WiMAX Forum has defined WiMAX as a "last mile" broadband wireless access alternative to cable modem service and Digital Subscriber Line (DSL). However, the bandwidth and reach of WiMAX makes it useful for other services such as connecting Wi-Fi hotspots together and providing high speed data and telecommunications to portable handsets.
NTS is a member of the WiMAX ForumĀ®. The WiMAX Forum is an industry body formed to promote and certify radio systems based on the IEEE 802.16 broadband wireless access standard. Equipment complying with the standard and meeting the interoperability requirements will be WiMAX Forum CertifiedTM.
NTS provides extensive testing services for the regulatory certification of 802.16 devices against international standards, including:
