Voice Switching Interoperability

The NTS Telecommunications Network Architecture and Interoperability Laboratory (NAIL) provides telecom equipment manufacturers and service providers a unique environment to test interoperability of next generation packet-based VoIP devices with legacy circuit switched equipment. The NAIL provides three legacy Class 5 digital switches to test against: a Lucent 5ESS, a Nortel DMS 100, and a Siemens EWSD. Interoperability of TR-57, TR-08 and GR-303 interfaces can be tested, verified and certified by NAIL engineers and technicians.

A Nortel CS-2000 softswitch and a number of other VoIP switch platforms provide Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and H.248 (Gateway Control Protocol) testing capabilities. The NAIL also contains a host of legacy and next generation digital loop carrier platforms to test against. As service providers gradually convert to VoIP architectures, interoperability becomes critical to ensure a seamless transition to next generation networks.
