HALT Testing and HASS Testing Overview

Do you need to minimize your warranty claims, reduce field failure, and reduce your products time to market, and increase your customer confidence in your products? HALT testing and HASS testing can help.

Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), and Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS) are two testing methods utilized in the early determination of potential problems for your products over their life time.

The HALT testing process employs combined thermal and triaxial (often referred to as 6 degrees of freedom) vibration stress to rapidly uncover design issues and potential defects. Early discovery and remediation of these problems is vital not only to the success of your products, but for the reduction in failure and warranty costs long term.

HASS testing speeds the discovery of latent defects in manufacturing and thus reduces associated failures. The process utilizes similar equipment to the HALT process, and the development of a HASS profile requires previous HALT results, as well as other data and validation information. In addition to identifying defects in existing products, HASS testing can also determine the impact alternative components will have on your design.

In both the HALT and the HASS testing procedure, the product is powered up and monitored through out the testing cycle, which is typically three to five days, depending on your product.
