Overview

As an authorized Independent Test Lab (ITL) for the four North America ILEC companies, NTS can support your DSL testing needs -- no matter which kind of DSL modem you may have (VDSL, ADSL or ADSL2/2+). NTS has over 60 DSLAM configurations available to support you and help you qualify your modem to the appropriate testing requirements (e.g., TR-067 ADSL, etc.). In addition, NTS�s TR-067 ADSL Automated Interoperability Testing will help you achieve the DSL Forum ADSL North American qualification requirements and accelerate your product to market. You can choose from any of our DSLAM configurations to have your product tested and qualified to meet your target deployment market, plus NTS can assist you with debugging your product.

NTS will also test and certify ADSL2 and ADSL2+ modems once testing standards are ratified by the DSL Forum. NTS also provides an environment for G.983 Passive Optical Network (PON) testing and interoperability certification, and provides the infrastructure to test and certify interoperability of an ONT (optical network terminal) against a variety of host OLTs (optical line terminals). By combining the DSL test beds with the PON test bed, NTS also provides capability to test hybrid fiber/copper networks.

Testing Process

DSL Forums Technical Report (TR) 067 outlines an ADSL Interoperability Test Plan developed by the Testing & Interoperability Working Group of the DSL Forums. TR-067 defines testing using pass/fail criteria and establishes the format for conducting all ADSL testing with more extensive testing of upper-layer protocol functions and built-in modem diagnostics. It builds on and strengthens the previous TR-048 specification for ADSL testing, establishing higher benchmarks for performance and interoperability. Compared with TR-048, TR-067 requires approximately 10% greater bit-rate on most loops, and approximately 30% greater bit-rate for loops with bridged taps. The much-improved performance with bridged taps helps in providing the same level of service to all ADSL customers in a service area. TR-067 not only defines the test procedures (i.e. Physical Layer Test Cases, Higher Level Test Cases, ATM Connectivity Tests, etc.), but also the test equipment required to perform testing.
