Triple Play Testing and Interoperability

The NTS Network Architecture Infrastructure Laboratory (NAIL) provides an environment for G.983 Passive Optical Network (PON) testing and interoperability certification. As carriers begin to deploy "triple play" (voice, video and broadband) offerings over FTTP (Fiber To The Premises) PON networks, the NAIL provides the infrastructure to test and certify interoperability of an ONT (optical network terminal) against a variety of host OLTs (optical line terminals). Some carriers are deploying a FTTN (Fiber To The Neighborhood) PON architecture where the "last mile" connection to the customer is over copper with ADSL. By combining the DSL test beds with the PON test bed, the NAIL provides the capabilities to test these hybrid fiber/copper networks.
