EMC Testing
The NTS EMC Solution
NTS is known worldwide as the industry leading provider of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) engineering and compliance testing services. Our EMC and EMI Subject Matter Experts can offer your company integrated design, analysis, testing and evaluation services, reducing your product development costs and accelerating your time to market. Our Program Managers and Subject Matter Experts work closely with you and your team, conducting extensive technical design reviews to determine your exact needs. We then structure our solution to fit your particular challenges.
A typical EMC Engineering Services program involves:
- Intensive analysis of needs, including surveys of the environment in which the equipment will be required to function.
- Development of protection and testing requirements, including review and determination of appropriate compliance standards where none was specified by the client.
- Develop and conduct training programs for designers and engineers on the requirements, and on techniques and strategies for designing for compliance to these requirements.
- Creation of design review and analysis process for the testing of your product against specifications.
- Development and implementation of necessary design changes
- Develop detailed test procedures and conduct all required compliance testing and analysis.
Why get EMC testing from NTS?
NTS provides in-house EMI testing and EMI analysis and on-site EMI Testing and analysis to the latest military(MIL-STD), federal(FCC), commercial(GR-CORE, Verizon, RBOC), and international (EN, VCCI, Industry Canada, BSMI, Korea Mic Mark, Australia & New Zealand) standards. EMI and EMC testing provides utilities and manufacturers with vital EMI/EMC data for existing equipment and plant modifications. With over 40 years in military and aerospace testing, National Technical Systems understands what it takes for your equipment to be EMC and EMI compliant without creating unnecessary hurdles to your development program. Our equipment includes fourteen shielded rooms that meet MIL-STD 461/462 A-E and DO-160 requirements, six open test sites, a 40 ft x 40 ft x 18 ft (12m x 12m x 5.5m) chamber, and 200 V/m, 10kHz to 40GHz test capability at locations in Arizona, Massachusetts, Texas, New Jersey, California, Calgary (Canada) and Munich (Germany). NTS routinely tests to RTCA DO-160, IEEE-STD-299 and platform specific standards, such as Boeing and Airbus as well as to numerous Military Standards, including:
- Mil-Std 461
- Mil-Std 462
- Mil-Std 1576
- Mil-Std 285
- Mil-Std 704
- Mil-Std 1541
- Mil-Std 220
NTS maintains a continuous in-house training program and actively supports technical personnel taking coursework in EMI and EMC product design, electromagnetic shielding, grounding, antenna fundamentals, and related topics. NTS engineers routinely offer design assistance to our clients, providing efficient and pragmatic solutions to real-time EMI/EMC testing issues.
Special EMC Set-Ups Available
All National Technical Systems EMI testing and EMC testing facilities contain numerous power supplies and sources for our extensive customer base. National Technical Systems has equipment that supports 110 - 480 V; 60 or 400 Hz; single or three phase power sources as well as DC power supplies with capabilities up to 1200 A and voltages up to 600 V. For various aircraft applications, variable voltage and frequency generators are also available. In addition, NTS provides 50 Hz power generators for European or NATO applications. Equipment tested includes systems, subsystems, and components for ground vehicles, surface ships, submarines, aircraft (Army), aircraft (Air Force and Navy), and space hardware (satellite, ground support and launch). Because of our large EMI test chambers and EMC test chambers, NTS often performs testing of complete stand-alone units, such as armored military vehicles or multi-ton diesel generators. Our machining and fabrication facilities can help our test cells accommodate such large items by fabricating intake and exhaust piping, shielding, heat removal systems and any ancillary equipment required for special testing.
Let our NTS engineers help you design your product for compliance to the relevant EMI and EMC specifications, thus shortening your time-to-market, increasing your efficiencies, and decreasing your costs.
